About Us

I am writing to share my journey as a survivor of metastatic anorectal mucosal melanoma, a rare diagnosis I received in April 2018. Despite being given only one to two years to live, I am now more than eight years past that diagnosis.

My path has been incredibly difficult, involving six surgeries, including two craniotomies, as well as chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. I faced severe complications, including encephalitis that led to hallucinations and memory loss, as well as viral encephalopathy and a serious car accident.

I would not be here today without the relentless support of my wife, Pat, and the exceptional care team at Mass General Hospital in Boston, Ma. Engaging with support groups like the Mucosal Melanoma Warriors and the Melanoma Research Alliance has also been a vital part of my process, providing a space to navigate the fear and anger that comes with this disease.

I have spent my retirement writing a book about these experiences to keep my mind focused and to offer a message of hope. My goal is simple: to encourage others to never quit and to fight every day. You are a survivor from the moment you are diagnosed, and every morning you wake up is a victory.

I hope that sharing my story can help at least one person facing a similar battle or supporting someone who is.
